[dropcap custom_class=”normal”]Tämä kuvissa näkyvä aukio (Place du Martroi) on yksi suosikkipaikoistani Orléansissa. Halusin ottaa asukuvat juuri siellä, vaikka se on yksi vilkkaimmista paikoista koko kaupungissa. Kuvat otettiin siis melkoisessa kiireessä aina silloin kun tausta oli tyhjänä muista ihmisistä. Tämä aukio on ihan kaupungin sydämmessä ja meidän koti-oveltamme sinne kävelee parissa minuutissa. Orléansin paras puoli on juurikin se, että kaupunki on todella kompakti ja kävellen pääsee joka paikkaan. Harmi, että Orléansin yliopisto sijaitsee keskustan ulkopuolella, sillä olisi ihana voida kävellä kouluun auton tai ratikan sijaan. Yliopisto on kyllä niin valtava, että sitä olisi ihan mahdotonta mahduttaa keskustaan näin pienessä kaupungissa. Koulun kannalta meidän asuinpaikka ei ole ehkä se ideaalein, mutta rakastan asua ydinkeskustassa palveluiden lähettyvillä. Tällä siis mennän![/dropcap]
Meidän viikonloppu meni rauhallisissa merkeissä ja lauantaina tehtiin reissu Ikeaan. Poikaystäväni totesikin, että se on kuin menisi Ruotsin suurlähetystöön, heh. Itselleni tulee Ikeassa aina niin kotoisa olo, että vierailen siellä mielelläni, vaikka mitään ostettavaa ei olisikaan. Kierroksen jälkeen teen aina täsmäiskun ruokapuolelle ja voi sitä onnea kun voi keräillä tuttuja irtokarkkeja pussiin. Onneksi Ikea on nyt rakenteilla myös tänne Orléansiin, joten pääsen täydentämään ruokavarastoja (=karkki) hieman useammin.

The square you can vaguely see behind me is one of my favorites in Orléans. It’s full of coffee places, during weekend there’s markets and then there’s the beautiful carousel, which is makes the square even more charming. I wanted to take outfit pictures here many times, but it’s always so full of people that it’s quite a challenge to get a picture without tens of people behind. So we took these pictures in a rush whenever there was a few seconds of empty space behind me, heh.
What I like most about this city is how small it is. You can basically walk everywhere. Well, almost. As it happens, the University of Orléans is outside the city center and of course that’s where I have my French classes. It’s not that far, but not within walking distance (unless you have a lot of extra time and energy). However, I still love living in the center and I don’t mind the commute.
Our weekend was very chill and on Saturday we did a trip to Ikea. Boyfriend said that going to Ikea is like going to the Swedish embassy, heh. I agree! Being Nordic, I love Ikea and I feel so at home there. I like going there just for the familiar vibe. I call it my home away from home! Besides the familiar vibe, I also love Ikea’s grocery section. And especially their candy section. It brings me right back to Finland! Luckily they are opening a new store in Orléans next year (?), which means I’ll get to visit more often and stash up on the candy.
